Yes, it's a scam.
If the buyer is serious, tell him to wire the money to your bank. Cut the price by $50 to offset the wire fees.
You watch, the seller will disappear.
there is a scam my mom in law sold a truck on e bay the guy sent a check for 2 times what it was worth and asked she pay for the shipping with the extra money, and then send the change in mail. she noticed it was a scam because the check was from a bank in Nevada but on the check it was misspelled. Navada. she contacted police and feds got involved.
Make sure the check is for exact ammount you asked for not a cent extra. make sure it's in US dollars not pounds euros or any other currency
not all buyers are scams. so just be careful. some ppl actually want something other than to rip you off. I would not release the truck till the bank cleared the check. inform the bank on how you got this check as well.. C.Y.O.A. cover your own azz :)
it is a scam. Why do you think they would ship something that you can get anywhere halfway around the world?? The cashiers check are bogus. They have gotten very good at this. The bank will discover after a while and you are left with the problem of paying the bank back and no truck. It does not matter what you sell, the scam works.
all they need is a bill of sale and the title to ship. Now with the cashiers check you should wait a week before you give them the car because sometimes they are bad and you wont know until the bank calls you and tell you that you owe them the money back.BE CAREFULL.
SCAM for sure. Never accept any form of payment other than cash in hand or a direct wire transfer into your bank. These people are good at their deception and quick to get the money and disappear.
Scam.
Google this stuff. It's not new news!
its a scam
As a car dealer I come across this all the time. I have enough cashiers checks, certified checks and money orders to paper the white house. Now the only way I send a car anywhere is by first getting a Bank Wire Transfer, when it clears an is actually sitting in my account. I will release the car to the shipper, If the buyer paid him. The buyer has to pay the shipper I never get involved with paying anyone. I will help load but that's it. I gather you know all the strings attached to cashiers, certified and money orders. Your bank will take the deposit, the bank can collect on the funds in as many as 45 days from the day you deposit it. Which means you will have the money in your account but as long as the bank has not actually collected it you are responsible. Meaning if you spend it or any of it and the funds are not collected you will have to pay the bank back. I sell cars all over the world most thru ebay and everyday someone tries something new. I now if I get a check of any type, the buyer is told no problem but you don't get the vehicle for 90 days. If he says but it's a certified check or whatever and it's good, then I return the funds and he can buy somewhere else. Honest buyers understand this, crooks don't. If you have a legitimate buyer he will understand. And if he is legit he will offer to do a bank wire transfer if he really wants the car. Oh, by the way, if you were told or sent extra money to pay the shipper, TRUST ME, IT'S A SCAM. And if you are considering checking with the bank that the check is drawn on, don't be surprised if the account number and bank are real, with today's software and pc, anyone can make a check. Most of the accounts I have dealt with have been real accounts and numbers but they were stolen and or printed on a pc, which is easy. So my advice is BE VERY CAREFUL if you are determined to go thru with the deal.
